Owner Alex Langston began welding and working with rod iron upon graduating from high school in 2001. He worked in other welding shops for six years before deciding to open his own where he could be free to produce the custom, hand-made work he aspired to create. Back Alley Ornamental Iron opened in June 2006 in the back of his house in Old Louisville downtown. Customers who wanted to see him came through the back alley to get to his shop; thus, the name of the business was created.
